Hello there my Darlings!
This past week social media critics were all “abuzz” when People Magazine named R&B singer and father of two, John Legend, The Sexiest Man Alive.
Hold the presses! The internet has been in a tizzy since the latest issue hit the stands.
But why?
I scroll vigorously throughout my Twitter feed seeking the public’s reactions and rolling my eyes in aggravation at the comments (as usual). There was a decent amount of people who did not agree with People’s 2019 choice.
Originally creating the popular annual award in 2002, the list includes celebrity hotties like Brad Pitt (2000), David Beckham (2015), and Idris Elba (2018). The choices for Sexiest Man Alive are obviously attractive but is that all that sexy means? A cute smile, rippling muscles, and some twinkle in your eye?
I will say the comments weren’t all bad.
Many of the past award-winners were multi-talented, successful in their careers, or making big waves in the entertainment industry. Hollywood has an idea mold for what “sexy” looks like. That seemed to be the biggest issue that people had with Legend taking home the award this year. Fans didn’t agree with him being called “sexiest man alive”.
John has been a musician for most of his life, giving fans hits like “Jesus Christ SuperStar”, “All of Me”, “Ordinary People”, and “Tonight”. He supports a multitude of children’s’ charities and donates to several organizations a year. The man’s net worth is well over $40 Million, according to Forbes. He’s a loving father with a kick ass spouse to boot! Meanwhile, Chrissy and John are not strangers to the spotlight, they practically bathe in it, whether they are enjoying a party together and John is drunk singing or the two are in matching gear hanging out around the house. All of these are qualities people would put on their “pro” list for what being sexy entails.
So why the freak out, Twitter?
The answer is unclear. However, I’m sure if you show me a photo of a man that you consider sexy, I am sure I can find a hundred other people who would disagree.
